Record champions Al Ahly Women booked their place in the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship after a hard-fought 3-1 (25-12, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25) victory over a resilient Kenya Prisons side.
The Egyptian powerhouse started strongly, racing to an early 8-3 lead in the opening set, with their sharp serves and well-placed attacks setting the tone. Despite Kenya Prisons gaining some momentum mid-set with clever spikes targeting open spaces at the back, Al Ahly maintained control and closed out the first set convincingly at 25-12.
Tatjana Bokan led the charge again in the second set, her powerful attacks pushing Al Ahly to another 8-3 advantage. However, unforced errors allowed the Kenyan side to claw their way back into the game. A late surge from Kenya Prisons, including a service ace and a trio of points off Ahly mistakes, narrowed the gap, but the Egyptians held firm to take the set 25-20.
Kenya Prisons responded with renewed energy in the third. After trailing early, they regrouped to level the scores at 12-12. For the first time in the match, they snatched the lead at 16-15 and continued to press, eventually edging out Al Ahly 25-22 to stay alive in the contest.
The fourth set proved the most thrilling, with both teams battling fiercely point for point. Needing a win to force a decider, Kenya Prisons defended valiantly and executed key blocks to stay in contention. But Al Ahly’s experience showed in the closing moments. Capitalizing on a series of late hitting errors by their opponents, the Cairo-based club clinched the set 27-25, sealing their place in the final four.
With the win, Al Ahly reaffirmed their championship pedigree and move one step closer to adding another title to their decorated legacy.
