The Nigerian Premier Football League mid-season transfer window officially opened on Wednesday with several clubs already making bold statements. Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Remo Stars and Rivers United are among the sides expected to be busiest before the window closes on January 31.
League officials told journalists they anticipate more than 50 signings across the 20 clubs. Remo Stars, who are pushing for the title, have already held talks with two foreign strikers while Enyimba are looking to strengthen their defence.
NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye said the window is an opportunity for clubs to fix weaknesses exposed in the first half of the season.
“We want to see quality signings that will improve the standard of our league,” he said.
Fans are excited. On social media, supporters of Shooting Stars and Heartland are already demanding new players. The transfer window promises to be one of the most active in recent years.
