High Stakes, High Drama

Both teams came into this bronze medal clash after narrow semifinal exits—Akwa Ibom falling to Lagos, and Ogun State edged out by Edo. With pride and a place on the podium at stake, this encounter promised fireworks—and it delivered.

Akwa Ibom’s Grit with the Bat

Winning the toss, Akwa Ibom chose to bat, and their approach was both measured and strategic. Sarah Etim led from the front with a steady 40 off 46 balls, anchoring the innings through challenging spells. She was ably supported by Deborah Bassey, who chipped in with a brisk 28 off 24, showcasing aggressive stroke play in the middle overs.

Ogun State’s bowlers did well to restrict the flow of runs. Gbamanja Finda was clinical, claiming 2/14 in 4 overs, while Ayomiposi Olukayode also impressed with two scalps. Despite losing wickets at intervals, Akwa Ibom reached a competitive 112/7 in 20 overs.

Ogun’s Brave Chase Falls Short

In reply, Ogun State’s chase was anchored by a lone warrior: Divine, whose stunning 63 off 57 balls lit up the stadium. Her innings was a blend of elegance and defiance, keeping Ogun in the hunt even as wickets tumbled around her.

Unfortunately, she found little support from the rest of the batting order. None of the other Ogun batters managed to cross double figures, and the side ended their innings at 100/7, falling 12 runs short.

Akwa Ibom’s bowling was sharp and disciplined, with Naomi Bassey (1/12) and Gloria Sunday (1/15) applying consistent pressure during the middle overs. Their combined effort ensured that Ogun never built a threatening partnership.
