In a significant boost to grassroots sports and inclusivity, the President of the Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF), Commodore MS Shettima, has extended a generous hand of support to Adamawa State’s Para-shooting athletes.
The donation, which includes specialized wheelchairs and high-quality pellets, comes at a critical time as the athletes intensify their preparations for the upcoming Abuja 2026 National Para Games.
Enhancing Performance Through Personal Goodwill
Commodore Shettima, who also serves as the Chairman of the Adamawa State Shooting Sports Association, made the presentation personally to the athletes currently camping in Abuja. According to federation sources, the donation was driven by his long-standing passion for sports development and his commitment to ensuring that athletes with disabilities have the tools necessary to compete at the highest level.
The provided wheelchairs are designed to enhance mobility and ergonomic comfort during intense training sessions and competitive matches. Additionally, the supply of pellets ensures that the team faces no logistical hurdles in their daily practice routines.
A Vision for Inclusive Sports in Nigeria
Speaking during the presentation, Commodore Shettima praised the athletes for their resilience and steady technical improvement.
“The issue of inclusion within the shooting sports community is sacred,” Shettima remarked. “I am delighted to see the dedication of these athletes. I encourage you all to remain disciplined and focused. Our goal is not just to participate, but to achieve excellence at the Para Games.”
He further emphasized the need for nationwide engagement in shooting sports, calling for more stakeholders to invest in the growth of the federation to discover talent across all 36 states.
Boosted Morale in the Adamawa Camp
The athletes expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a “timely motivation” that has significantly lifted the mood in the camp. Many noted that the new equipment would allow them to refine their precision and technique ahead of the national competition.
Salamatu Alimi, the Acting Director of Sports, also lauded the NSSF President’s intervention. She noted that such philanthropic efforts are vital for the survival of para-sports in Nigeria.
“This donation is a game-changer for our training capacity,” Alimi stated. “We will continue to work tirelessly to promote shooting sports activities within Adamawa State and beyond, ensuring our athletes have the best possible platform to succeed.”
