Nigeria Begins Preparations for 3rd National Para Games with New Organising Committee
Nigeria’s sporting community is gearing up for the third edition of the National Para Games following the announcement of a new 13‑member Local Organising Committee tasked with delivering a successful and inclusive event.
The committee, appointed by the National Sports Commission (NSC), is chaired by Mrs. Thecla Opara, Director of the National Sports Festival & Para Sports Department, with Mrs. Hauwa Saibu serving as Secretary. Made up of experienced professionals committed to fair play and international standards, the team will oversee all preparations leading up to the competition.
Scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja from 26th March to 3rd April 2026, the National Para Games will feature a diverse programme of events. Athletes will compete in disciplines including amputee football, para athletics, wheelchair basketball, para swimming, and sitting volleyball, among others.
Since its inception in 2022, the National Para Games has steadily grown in scale and participation. The first edition drew over 4,000 athletes from 21 states, while the second saw representation from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Organised in partnership with the Nigeria Paralympic Committee and coordinated by the National Sports Festival and Para Sports Department, the upcoming Games promise high levels of competition and opportunity for athletes with disabilities to showcase their talent on a national stage.
With preparations now underway and the organising committee in place, expectations are high that the 2026 National Para Games will mark another milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing support for inclusive sports development.
