Nigeria’s boxing community witnessed an intense week of action as the Commonwealth Games National Open Boxing Trials concluded on Friday at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Complex, National Stadium, Surulere, in Lagos.
The six-day event, held from March 1–6, 2026, produced medalists across multiple male and female weight categories. Fighters from different states and clubs battled for supremacy and a chance to represent Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games.

In-Ring Action from the Trials
The competition served as a major step in Nigeria’s preparation for the international tournament, with boxers displaying skill, resilience, and determination inside the ring.
Following the conclusion of the trials, all 40 medalists will proceed to a national training camp. There, they will continue competing for the single slot available in each weight category. A total of ten boxers will ultimately represent Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
The final selections from the camp will form Nigeria’s boxing team for the next Commonwealth Games, as the country aims to build a strong squad capable of challenging for medals on the international stage.
