Sokoto State emerged as the overall champions at the UBEC Northwest Primary Schools Sports Competition, held from July 12–14, 2025. Competing against teams from Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Niger states, Sokoto secured multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals across athletics, football, and relay events.
The event aims to foster grassroots talent, emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork among primary school students. Officials noted that several standout athletes could progress to state and national-level competitions, including Nigeria’s National Youth Games.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal congratulated the team, stating: “Sokoto’s achievement highlights our commitment to nurturing young talents and promoting sports culture from an early age.
