Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has joined a South African Premier Soccer League club on a six-month short-term deal after parting ways with Chippa United. The highly-rated shot-stopper said the move was necessary to ensure he gets regular first-team football ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nwabali, who was part of the Super Eagles squad that reached the final of AFCON 2023, has struggled for playing time in recent months.
“I need to be playing regularly to stay sharp. This opportunity in South Africa will help me prepare well for the national team. I am grateful to the club for giving me this chance,” he said upon signing the contract.
His agent confirmed that the deal includes an option to extend depending on performance. Fans have welcomed the move, with many believing regular games will help Nwabali regain the form that made him one of Africa’s best goalkeepers. The Super Eagles technical team is also monitoring his progress closely as they prepare for the new coach’s first games.
