The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a total fine of N5 million on Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and ordered the indefinite closure of their home ground, the Lekan Salami Stadium, to fans for the remainder of the season following a series of security breaches and fan misconduct.
The sanctions come in the aftermath of a disturbing incident that followed Matchday 32 between Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City, held on Sunday, April 6, 2025. A disciplinary panel convened on Wednesday and found the Ibadan-based club guilty on multiple counts related to poor crowd control and failure to provide adequate security.
Breakdown of Sanctions:
- N3 Million in NPFL Fines:
Shooting Stars were fined N1 million for failing to ensure adequate security, allowing unauthorized individuals into restricted areas, and enabling the harassment of match officials.
An additional N1 million fine was imposed for breaching Rule C9 by failing to control their supporters, resulting in the assault of Ikorodu City fans.
A further N1 million fine was levied under Rule B13.18 for the throwing of objects onto the pitch and at match officials. - N2 Million Compensation to Ikorodu City:
The club is to pay N2 million to Ikorodu City as compensation for damages caused to the visiting team’s bus during the fracas. - Stadium Closure:
In addition to the monetary penalties, the NPFL disciplinary panel ordered that the Lekan Salami Stadium be closed to fans for the rest of the current season.
The NPFL cited violations of Rules C9, B13.18, and general misconduct by fans, which culminated in attacks on the visiting team and officials.
Shooting Stars have been given 48 hours under Rule C26 to either accept the ruling or submit an appeal against the decisions.
This latest disciplinary action adds to growing concerns about fan behavior and stadium security across the league, as stakeholders continue to push for improved safety measures and enforcement protocols.
