Nigerian Athletics Federation Announces New High-Performance Program

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria unveiled a high-performance program aimed at improving athlete preparation, coaching standards, and international competitiveness.

In a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s athletics framework, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) announced a new high-performance program.

The initiative focuses on enhancing training methodologies, upgrading coaching expertise, and providing athletes with access to world-class facilities and sports science support. The program also includes international training partnerships designed to expose Nigerian athletes to elite competition environments.

Top athletes such as Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume are expected to benefit from improved technical support, while emerging talents will gain structured development pathways.

Officials stressed that the program aims to address long-standing issues in Nigerian athletics, including inconsistent preparation and lack of continuity in athlete development.

If successfully implemented, the initiative could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s quest for sustained success in global athletics competitions.
