Ogun State, Nigeria, March 30, 2025 – The official countdown to the 2025 National Sports Festival (NSF) has begun, with Ogun State receiving the prestigious Torch of Unity. This significant event marks the commencement of preparations for the 2025 NSF, which will take place from May 16 to May 30, 2025.
In a symbolic handover ceremony held today at the Ogun State Government House, the Torch of Unity was passed from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to Ogun State officials. This marks the official start of the journey toward the festival, which will bring together thousands of athletes from across the country to compete in multiple sporting disciplines.
Official Ceremony and Remarks
The handover ceremony was attended by key stakeholders in the sports sector, including officials from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ogun State Government, and representatives of the National Sports Festival organizing committee.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, expressed his excitement and commitment to hosting the prestigious event.
“We are honored to receive the Torch of Unity, a symbol of the nation’s shared commitment to peace, unity, and sportsmanship. Ogun State is ready to provide an excellent platform for athletes to showcase their skills and represent the very best of Nigerian sports,” Governor Abiodun said during the handover ceremony.
He further emphasized the role of sports in fostering national unity and empowering youth, highlighting that the festival would provide an opportunity for Ogun State to further develop its sporting infrastructure and inspire young Nigerians.
“The National Sports Festival is more than just an athletic competition. It is a celebration of the power of sports to unite our diverse nation, and we will ensure it is an event to remember,” Governor Abiodun added.

Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, also weighed in on the importance of the festival.

We are confident that Ogun State will provide an outstanding setting for the event,” Minister Dare stated.
