Nigerian tennis star Marylove Edwards is determined to break into the top 100 of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings by the middle of 2025. After a breakthrough season in 2024, Edwards has set her sights on climbing even higher in the global rankings and cementing her place among the world’s best players.
The 20-year-old is coming off a year in which she achieved several career-best performances, including a quarter-final appearance at the WTA 500 event in Dubai and a semifinal finish at the WTA 250 tournament in Adelaide. Her rise has been characterized by her consistency and mental toughness, attributes she plans to build upon in 2025.
“I have put in a lot of work and sacrifice to get to where I am today,” Edwards said in a recent interview. “But I know that the hard work is just beginning. I want to crack the top 100 by mid-year, and I believe with continued focus and commitment, I can make that happen.”
To achieve her goal, Edwards has made changes to her training regimen and will be working closely with a new coaching team to sharpen her skills. The goal is not only to improve her physical game but also her mental resilience, which will be crucial as she faces higher-ranked opponents in the coming months.
The Nigerian Tennis Federation has pledged to support Edwards in her bid to break into the top 100, with plans to provide funding for her participation in key international tournaments.
