The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially acknowledged the appeal lodged by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.

CAF’s Controversial Ruling Sparks Outrage

Following the chaotic final against hosts Morocco in January 2026, CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the match after briefly walking off the pitch in protest. Despite originally winning 1-0 in extra time, the Lions of Teranga were awarded a 3-0 loss under Article 84 of the regulations, with the title handed to Morocco.

Senegal has strongly condemned the decision as “unfair, unprecedented, and damaging to African football.”

Senegal Takes the Case to CAS

The FSF has now formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, seeking to overturn CAF’s ruling and restore the title. The federation insists it is fighting for sporting integrity and justice.

CAS Promises Swift and Fair Proceedings

CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb confirmed the appeal has been received and stated:

“CAS is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute… We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision. Arbitration proceedings will be conducted as swiftly as possible while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.”

What’s Next in the High-Profile Case?

The matter will now proceed through the CAS arbitration process, involving independent arbitrators who will review evidence from Senegal, CAF, and potentially Morocco. A final verdict could take several months, but CAS has pledged efficiency.
